The New Word of Mouth
How to Get Found, Trusted, and Chosen in the AI Era
On September 19th, Eric Vegas gave a keynote at Tech Alley Las Vegas, a community where startup founders and developers gather to learn and build alongside one another. His talk explored how artificial intelligence is reshaping search, arguing that AI answer engines have become the new word of mouth, and that businesses with clean, consistent digital identities are the ones AI recommends and trusts.
The premise was that the referral has been automated. A customer used to ask someone they knew which company to call. Now they ask a model, and the model answers out of whatever it can verify about a business across the open web. Vegas walked the room through what that machine actually finds when it looks: a company name spelled three different ways, an address that moved two years ago, a description of the work that changes on every profile. None of it is a lie and all of it is a contradiction, and a system built to avoid being wrong routes around contradictions rather than resolving them.
If a model cannot tell who you are, it recommends someone it can.
From there the talk turned practical, treating the problem as record keeping rather than marketing. Get the name, the location, the offer and the proof to agree everywhere they appear. Make the relationships between a person, their company and their work explicit instead of leaving them to be inferred. Give an answer engine something it can repeat without guessing, because the recommendation goes to the business it can describe with confidence.
The talk challenged the room to rethink SEO for an AI first world, where being accurately known matters more than being ranked. A ranking assumes a person will scroll a page of results and choose for themselves. An answer assumes that choice already happened, offscreen, in a system that never saw the page. Vegas closed on the part founders tend to find uncomfortable: the work is unglamorous, it is mostly reconciliation, and the businesses that do it first will be the ones named while everyone else is still optimizing for a results page fewer people read every month.

What he works on
- Web Application Development
Full applications, not just pages: authentication, a database, payments, and the routes that hold them together.
- AI Agents And Voice
Conversational agents that do not just talk. They take the call, then write to a calendar, send the confirmation and notify a human.
- Business Automation And Integrations
Connecting systems that were never designed to talk to each other, so a process that needed a person no longer does.
- Payments And Product Distribution
Taking money and delivering the thing: checkout, webhook, entitlement, access.
- 3D And Interactive Web
Spaces you move around in, running in an ordinary phone browser.
- Photography
Portrait, editorial, fashion, event and commercial photography, shot in Las Vegas.
- Video Production
Cinematic video, from brand and commercial work through to weddings, music videos and live events.
All of it is grouped by outcome on the capabilities page. The photography and video portfolio is on the portfolio page, and what is on offer is on the photo and studio services page.
